HZMB Project: Immerse Tunnel E29 Successfully Installed
At 8:00 A.M. on February 19, 2017, the E29 was precisely installed after the CCCC builders had worked continuously for 27 hours, which laid a good foundation for the placement of the closure joint. The length of the immersed tunnel then reached 5481 meters with only 183 meters short of the whole tunnel.
The E29, with a length of 171.2 meters, is a non-typical curve element and was installed and docked with the west end of the enclosure joint, which required extremely high installation accuracy at both ends of the E29. At 5:30 A.M. on February 18, Lin Ming, the general manager of HZMB Project, gave the order to start and the E29 was winched out of the dry dock slowly. The immersion pontoon reached the mooring safely at 14:50 and the builders then made preparations for the placement of E29. After checking the sea conditions and confirming that all staff, ships and machines were in place at 23:00 P.M., they began lowering the E29 and successfully installed it to the right place at 8:00 A.M. on February 19. Later checks showed that the E29 measured up to the design requirements.
